RevChain is a billing and subscriber account management system. It is able to import, validate, guide, price, discount, tax, and invoice extremely high volumes of service usage transactions. Whatever unit of measure these transactions contain, RevChain can be configured to understand and process them. RevChain also supports a complete set of A/R functionality such as account balance management, historical bill inquiry, payment posting, dispute process management, credits and adjustments, and collections. RevChain can be configured to support either balance forward or the open item account balance management models.

The RevChain product suite consists of two primary sub-components:

  • RevChain Commerce - Commerce includes the Commerce Client and a set of C++ Service Applications. The Commerce Client is used by two sets of users. Administrators configure the system defaults, security, product catalog, and many other settings. Operators initiate and manage usage file imports and bill runs, conduct mass credits and adjustments, and perform other operational functions. The C++ Service Applications perform usage file imports, billing runs, online credit card authorizations/settlements, address validation, and many other functions.
  • RevChain Interact - Interact is an internet browser-based system used by CSRs (Customer Service Representatives) to create and maintain subscriber accounts and subscriber service configurations.

These RevChain components ride on top of a set of proprietary enabling technologies that are collectively known as the Internet Integration Architecture, or IIA®. The IIA is made up of the Database Layer, the Event Framework, and the J2EE Application Layer (also known as the JAL). The IIA makes RevChain flexible enough to be able to support different combinations of business functions in each solution. For example, RevChain has been configured as the ‘owner’ of all A/R functions in some solutions, while in others it has been integrated with one or more external systems that perform some or all of the A/R functions. In other locations, the Interact CSR user interface is designated as the point-of-entry of subscriber service configuration information, while at other sites, RevChain is integrated with an OMS (Order Management System) that serves as the point-of-entry for this data, and then feeds it to RevChain through JAL APIs.

It is the IIA that allows RevChain to be used in such different ways from one solution to the next, while still maintaining its software product identity.
